Free Crochet Pattern: Bunny Baby Toy

With Spring already here and Easter coming, I have been thinking about designing something with a bunny.  This is what I came up with-

This would make a really cute baby gift paired with any of my baby blanket patterns.

Materials needed:
• U.S. I/9- 5.5 MM crochet hook
• Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors- used here:
          -Color A- Red Heart Super Saver- Aran- for ring, body, & ears
          -Color B- Red Heart Super Saver- Aruba Sea- scraps for eyes
          -Color C- Lion Brand Pound of Love- Pink- scraps for inside of ears & nose
• Poly-Fil or stuffing of your choice
• Tapestry needle for sewing in the ends
• Stitch marker to make rounds


Abbreviations:
• ch= chain
• sc= single crochet
• sc2tog= single crochet 2 together= insert your hook into the first stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on the hook
• sl st= slip stitch

Finished size:
• 7¼” from tip of ear to bottom of ring

Ring (Make 1):
1: With color A, ch 5, join with sl st to first ch. Sc in each stitch around and keep sc around until the piece measures about 6 inches, or longer if you like.
Stuff the piece using the Poly-Fil and then sew the sides together to form a ring.

Ears (Make 2):
1: With color A, make a magic ring, ch 1, 4 sc in the ring, pull tight to close the ring (4 sc)
2: 2 sc in each stitch around (8 sc)
3: *2 sc in the first, sc in the next.  Repeat from the * around. (12 sc)
4: Sc in each stitch around (12 sc)
5: Sc in each stitch around (12 sc)
6: Sc in each stitch around (12 sc)
7: Sc in each stitch around (12 sc)
8: *Sc2tog, sc in the next.  Repeat from the * around. (8 sc)
9: Sc in each stitch around (8 sc)
10: Sc in each stitch around (8 sc).  Pull up your loop and leave it there to pick up after you complete the inner ear portion.

Surface crochet the pink inside of the ear 

  

Insert your hook at the spot where you want the top of the inner ear to begin.  Push your hook down until it comes out of the bottom of the ear and draw up the color you are using for your inner ear.

  

Begin to surface crochet down the length of the ear to the point where you want the bottom of your inner ear to end.

Turn and surface crochet back up the length of the ear.  When you reach the tip of your inner ear, finish off.

11: Pick up the loop of the main ear that you dropped before and sc2tog around (4 sc)

I didn’t stuff the ears but if you would like to, you can do that now.

Head (Make 1):
1: With color A, make a magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in the ring, pull tight to close the ring (6 sc)
2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12 sc)
3: *2 sc in the first, sc in the next.  Repeat from the * around. (18 sc)
4: *2 sc in the first, sc in the next, 1 sc in the next.  Repeat from * around. (24 sc)
5: Sc in each stitch around (24 sc)
6: Sc in each stitch around (24 sc)
7: Sc in each stitch around (24 sc)
8: Sc in each stitch around (24 sc)
9: *Sc2tog, sc in the next, sc in the next.  Repeat from the * around. (18 sc) Pull up your loop and leave it there to pick up after you sew the eyes & nose and attach the ears.

Now, sew the eyes (using Color B) and the nose (using Color C) and then attach the ears to the head.

  

10: Pick up the loop of the head that you dropped before and *sc2tog, sc in the next.  Repeat from the * around. (12 sc)

Stuff the head then continue.

11: Sc2tog around (6 sc)
12: Sc2tog 1 more time, or until the bottom of the head is closed to your liking
Sew the finished head to the finished ring and weave in any remaining ends.

Free Crochet Pattern: Emerson Car Seat Cover or Baby Blanket

I love the concept of car seat covers/canopies.  When you use a regular blanket instead, it is always falling off and you are constantly picking it up off the ground.  A car seat cover covers and protects your baby for cold weather, rain, snow, bright sun, you name it and it hooks on the handle bar so it ALWAYS stays in place!  I absolutely love it and if you have a baby in an infant seat, you NEED to make one of these to see how great it is. PLEASE REMEMBER, it is dangerous to have your baby covered up in their car seat for long periods of time.  This cover is NOT meant for that.  This cover is only meant to be used when you are walking from your house to your car, store to car, school to car, and the like...it is meant to protect your baby from rain, snow, strong wind as you are walking from the places mentioned above.  It is not meant to be left on the car seat when you are driving, sitting somewhere, going to a long walk or stroller ride, or anywhere else for longer than a minut

Free Crochet Pattern: Valentine's Day Headbands

I made these adorable Valentine's headbands for my daughters.  For three free crochet headband patterns and how I made them, see below! I saw the cutest heart headband floating around Pinterest and decided to make one for each of my daughters.  The tutorial for the heart headband is here and the original heart pattern is here . But instead of using an elastic headband, I decided to use a crochet one.  I made some of these last year for my girls to wear at Easter and they turned out well so I was excited to make more. Here are my hearts: For the red one, I used Vanna's Choice yarn in Scarlet with a K hook.  For the darker pink, I used Red Heart Soft Baby Steps in Strawberry with an I hook.  For the lighter pink, I used Vanna's Choice yarn in Pink with a G hook.
